How to start an online store with AI, step by step

By Kwop · Updated

To start an online store with AI: pick a niche you can reach, choose 1 to 3 products with a real margin, let an AI builder create and host the store, connect a payment provider such as Stripe, decide how orders get delivered, then bring your first visitors with short videos before you spend on ads. Kwop (kwop.io) does the building part for you: after a short quiz it builds and hosts your store at kwop.io/your-name with products, prices and copy, connects your Stripe account and writes your first marketing videos.

What can AI do for a new online store, and what can't it?

AI is now good at the parts that used to take weeks: suggesting products and prices for a niche, naming the store, writing product pages, designing and building the store, and writing video scripts and ads. It can't tell you for sure that people will buy, it can't make or ship your products, and it doesn't replace testing with real visitors. The steps below work with any tool; each one says what Kwop does for you.

Step 1: Pick a niche you can actually reach

A good first niche is one where you know where the buyers spend time: a hobby you are part of, a community you follow, a problem you had yourself. "Gifts for climbers" is easier to reach than "gifts". Ask yourself where your first 100 visitors would come from; if you can't answer, narrow the niche.

With Kwop: the quiz asks for your niche and idea, and the idea check tells you whether to start now, start simpler or change the angle.

Step 2: Choose 1 to 3 products with a margin

Start small: one hero product and one or two companions are easier to explain in a video than a catalog of fifty. Check the margin before anything else.

Example numbers, not a benchmark: you sell a product at $29. The product, its packaging and the shipping cost you $11. Stripe's fee for a US card is 2.9% + 30¢, about $1.14. You keep about $16.86 per order before ads.

With Kwop: products are suggested from your niche with realistic price ranges, and you can change any name, price or stock level from the dashboard.

Step 3: Decide how orders get delivered

Kwop doesn't source suppliers, hold stock or ship orders: it gives you the store, the payments and the marketing, and you or your partner deliver.

Step 4: Build the store with AI

A store that sells on a phone needs a clear first screen (what it is, for whom, the price), real product photos, shipping and returns information, and a checkout that works with one thumb.

With Kwop: after the quiz and your plan choice, Kwop builds the home page, product grid, product pages, cart and checkout, writes the copy, and hosts it all at kwop.io/your-name, mobile first. On Builder you can connect your own domain. See how Kwop builds a business.

Step 5: Connect payments

Stripe is the simplest way to take card payments on your own store: no monthly fee, a fee per payment (2.9% + 30¢ per US card), and the money lands in your bank account. Stripe asks for your identity and business details before it pays you out.

With Kwop: paste a Stripe secret or restricted key and the checkout button charges through your own Stripe account. Kwop takes no percentage of your sales. Until Stripe is connected, the store collects "notify me" emails instead of losing early visitors. On Builder you can also connect an existing WooCommerce store.

Step 6: Get your first visitors

For a new store, short videos (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts) are the cheapest way to get seen: one product, one hook in the first two seconds, one clear reason to buy. Post often and keep the formats that hold attention.

Ads come after: start with a small fixed daily budget, one product and a few creatives, and judge them by ROAS, the revenue each ad dollar brings back.

Example numbers: $50 of ad spend that brings $120 of sales is a ROAS of 2.4. Whether that is profitable depends on your margin from step 2.

With Kwop: every plan includes a marketing video pack (hooks and scripts to film; 30 on Starter, unlimited on Builder). Builder adds a new batch of ad creatives every 3 days, prompts for AI video tools, and a Meta Ads wizard that tracks ROAS from the spend and revenue you enter.

Step 7: Watch what visitors do, and fix it

Your first visitors tell you what is wrong faster than any checklist: they don't scroll past the first screen, they open the product but not the cart, they stop at shipping costs. Watch what they do, fix the biggest problem, and repeat.

With Kwop: on Builder, Visitors shows every visit to your store as a video replay, with what each visitor spent. More in why visitors don't buy and session replay.

How much does it cost to start an online store with AI?

Payment feesStripe: 2.9% + 30¢ per US card payment, no monthly fee.

How long until the first sale?

FAQ

Can AI build an online store for me?

Yes. AI builders can now create the pages, the copy, the products and the checkout. Kwop builds and hosts the whole store at kwop.io/your-name after a short quiz, connects your Stripe account and writes your first marketing videos. You still choose what to sell and deliver the orders.

Can I start an online store with AI for free?

You can plan it for free: Kwop's quiz, idea check and revenue scenario cost nothing. Building and hosting the store needs a plan, Starter at $19/month or Builder at $39/month, plus Stripe's fee on each payment.

Do I need to hold stock?

No. You can use print on demand or a supplier who ships for you, or sell items you make. Kwop doesn't source suppliers or ship orders, so you choose how delivery works.

How many products should I start with?

One to three. One hero product is easier to explain in a short video and easier to test. Add more once you know what sells.

Do I need a registered company to start selling?

It depends on your country, so check with your local tax office or an accountant before you sell. Stripe asks for your identity and business details before it pays you out.

Can I use my own domain?

On Builder, yes: you connect a domain you own with a CNAME record. On Starter your store lives at kwop.io/your-name. Buying a domain through Kwop is coming soon.

Does Kwop ship my orders?

No. Kwop builds and hosts the store, takes payments through your Stripe account and gives you the marketing. You, your print partner or your supplier ship the orders.

Start your store from a quiz

Tell Kwop your niche, your price and your time. You get an idea check and a revenue scenario based on your answers (not a promise), then Kwop builds and hosts your store.
